Sepalina is a returning. I composed the music by researching medicine songs from the Embera, an indigenous community my grandmother was from in Colombia. I was interested in going deeper into my history and beyond the language of my colonizers, English and Spanish. For the visual world I wanted to create a feeling of multiplicity of the self. I am seen in a white wig playing in a field, facedown washed up on a shore, bleeding from the mouth. These characters I inhabit, as well as being different versions of myself as I process and cope with my colonized body and mind, are also a representation of my ancestors.
